Readership figures reveal The West Australian’s metropolitan audience is up 4.5 per cent after surge in young readers

The West Australian

The West Australian has cemented its place as the country’s top-performing tabloid newspaper Monday-to-Friday, with latest readership figures revealing our metropolitan audience is up 4.5 per cent year-on-year or 15,000 people.

In total, 417,000 people now read The West Australian every weekday. In past six months, the total newspaper audience has grown by 9000 readers, while interstate newspapers have seen their totals fall by as many as 40,000 people.

Significantly, The West Australian’s growth has come on the back of a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in readers aged 14-29.

More people are also reading our Business and Sports sections in recent months, according to the new EMMA data.

The rise in weekday readers has seen The West hit a major milestone — recording the highest “market reach” of any major masthead in the country with, on average, one-in-five people in this State reading a copy of the newspaper every day.

The figures are even better for cross-platform market reach.

A massive 84 per cent of people in WA read The West Australian newspaper, its website, PerthNow or The Sunday Times in an average month.

The numbers again make West Australian Newspapers the nation’s leader.

West Australian Newspapers editor-in-chief Anthony De Ceglie said the figures were proof that the future of newspapers was bright — so long as there was a commitment to produce innovative, engaging and powerful editions every single day.
