Disintegration and a dating style triggered a major overhaul of a fibreglass pool in Canning Vale, with the structure being given a fresh face and new lease at life.

The pool’s gel coat was showing signs of degradation, with fine cracks starting to appear in the fibreglass, along with pesky blackspot. The clients wanted their pool to have a lasting surface and a modernised look.

“An exposed beam typical of old-style fibreglass pools, along with blonde brick pavers dated the look of their backyard, so a complete transformation was in order,” Add A Splash Pools Director Tania Spencer told New Homes.

The 7x3m pool was updated with an Aqualux vinyl liner and to match the tranquil green of the pool. A titanium Daisy blanket was also installed.

Ms Spencer said the standout aspects of this installation were the colours and the clean lines.

“Aqualux Maldive is a beautiful green/blue colour, which stands out from the average everyday blue pool,” she said.

“The colour of the composite decking complements the colour of the pool, and the deck looks clean and clear of clutter due to the hideaway blanket and skimmer.”

Slotting into the decking, the hideaway skimmer lid cover and blanket system makes sure there are no obstructions when using the pool.

The old brick paving was removed from around the pool by the clients and was replaced with composite wood.

“Easy to maintain, modern and stylish, this new decking wraps over the edge of the pool covering the old fibreglass beam,” she said.

“The decking was also designed to be slightly higher than the old pavers which were stepped, making the entire area one level.”

Brand new lights were installed and cushions were applied to seats and ledges around the pool to add more comfort to this contemporary result.

Ms Spencer said this type of transformation gave new life to old pools.

“Less expensive renovation options are available for fibreglass pools, however these often fail in the long term with blackspot and osmosis being contributing factors,” she said.
