Western Australia’s elite lawn bowlers descended on Leeming Bowling Club for the inaugural Stockland Halcyon Community Cup.

Sponsored by Stockland and the bowls club itself, the major event — organised by Sponsorship Director Jim Hastings — saw $17,000 worth of prize money up for grabs with 168 bowlers including WA Hall of Fame recipient Therese Hastings, 21-year-old Jack East, 14-year-old Callum Alberti and Calvin Rodgers, who lives with visual impairment.

Players from metro and country clubs took part in the day, with spectators including Stockland Communities Project Director Andrew Wallis, Stockland National Sales Manager Glen Nugent, Local Member for Riverton Dr Jags Krishnan, City of Melville Mayor George Gear and City of Melville Councillors Katy Mair and Jennifer Spanbroek.

Out of the 42 mixed-gender teams of four, Tyrone Alberti, Brad Gillingham, Denise Kelly and Blake Butler were the overall winners and took home $6,000.

Guests were treated to roast meats, salads and desserts, hedging their bets on two mega raffles to top off a day filled with wonderful weather, stellar sportsmanship and community comradery.
