Albany Caledonian hold on to record a hard-fought draw against Denmark in round eight of the AJSA season

Albany Caledonian scored their best result of the season in the under-15 competition, holding off a relentless Denmark side to walk away with a draw in round eight of the Albany Junior Soccer Association on Saturday.

Travelling without any substitutes, the team battled and defended valiantly against a Denmark side who created a huge number of chances.

Caledonian goalkeeper Fergus Wright made several fine saves early in the match and the longer the game wore on, the more comfortable Caledonian looked defending.

The rain made it difficult for both sides initially, but Denmark bore the brunt of the conditions as they struggled to hold meaningful possession, allowing Caledonian to smother their attacking line.

The resolute Caledonian prevented Denmark from finding the back of the net for the entire 70 minutes as they walked away with a hard fought nil-all draw and their first point of the season.

Meanwhile, Polonia kept the pressure on league leaders the Rangers with a 5-1 victory over Albany Bayswater.

The exchanges in the early stages were even with both sides creating a number of chances on goal, however, as the first half progressed, Polonia began to pull the strings.

The defence of Polonia became more assured which gave freedom for their attackers to drive forward with Riley Marsh playing an intelligent and unselfish game throughout the contest.

Marsh regularly split the Bayswater defence, chipping in with well weighted balls for the strikers to get in behind the defence.

Caelen Lambe was able to capitalise several times from Marsh’s through balls, scoring four of his sides five goals to win 5-1.

In the other under-15 fixture, Stirling Rangers cemented their position at the top, easily defeating John Calvin.

The Rangers scored three goals in as many minutes, leaving John Calvin shell-shocked.

Despite John Calvin stemming the flow of goals, they couldn’t prevent the tenacious Rangers as they conceded eight by half-time.

John Calvin made significant improvements in the second half to limit the Rangers to three goals, however, they weren’t able to hit the score sheet themselves and slumped to an 11-0 loss.
