Anzac Day Dawn Service returns to Albany with ticketed memorial event, live stream

The Anzac Day Dawn Service will return to Albany free and ticketed this year, with attendance limited to 500 people atop Mt Clarence in line with COVID-19 restrictions.

The service will be live streamed from the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial to the Albany Entertainment Centre from 5am, where attendance will be ticketed and limited to 450 people.

It will also be live streamed at Anzac Peace Park, where it will be shown on a big screen from 5am.

This year will also include the return of the Albany RSL sub-branch’s traditional gunfire breakfast from 6am-8.30am at the AEC.

The Anzac Day Troop March will start at 10am on York Street before the commemorative service at Anzac Peace Park at 10.30am.

Albany RSL president Helen Tasker said she encouraged those who could not attend the service to take to their driveways at dawn to pay their respects from home, after the success of last year’s socially distanced commemorations across Albany.

“While this year’s commemorations will look different to previous years, we ask for our community to be understanding of the constraints COVID-19 is creating, and if they can’t attend a memorial service, a personal driveway commemoration is still a great way to honour our war heroes,” she said.

Dawn service tickets will be available at the Albany Visitor Centre and on the National Anzac Centre website, with tickets to the AEC live stream available from the entertainment centre.

All tickets will be available from April 9. Buses will run from the AEC to the dawn service between 4am and 5am, with transport included with each ticket.

The service will also be live streamed on the NAC’s website and Facebook page.
