Contractor helps Albany RSL keep Anzac Day services running with $10k donation

With Albany’s Anzac Day services back this year, the contractor behind the Albany Ring Road has pitched in $10,000 to get this year’s commemorations off the ground.

As a place intrinsically linked with the Anzac story, a Decmil spokesperson said the company was happy to help the Albany RSL cover a funding shortfall for this year’s events.

“Since 1919, the Anzac Day services have taken place in Albany to commemorate the sacrifice made by soldiers in World War I,” a spokesperson said.

“The costs associated with organising such an event continue to increase, resulting in a shortfall of funding of this year’s event.”

The Anzac Day dawn service will return to the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial at Mt Clarence this year, with attendance capped at 500 people and free tickets required.

It will be live-streamed to the Albany Entertainment Centre from 5am, where attendance will be ticketed and limited to 450 people.

It will also be live-streamed to a big screen at Anzac Peace Park from 5am.

This year will also include the return of the Albany RSL sub-branch’s traditional gunfire breakfast from 6am-8.30am at the AEC.

The Anzac Day Troop March will start at 10am on York Street before the commemorative service at Anzac Peace Park at 10.30am.
