Shocking twist to suspicious death of woman in Albany as male suspect fights for his life in Perth

A male suspect in the suspicious death of a 69-year-old woman in Albany is fighting for his life after being flown to Perth for critical medical treatment on Sunday night, in a shocking twist to the tragic incident. The Advertiser can reveal police transferred a man in his 50s from the Burville Street unit in Spencer Park, where the elderly woman was found dead, to Albany Health Campus. From the Albany Health Campus, St John WA transported the man under lights and sirens to Albany Regional Airport just after 6pm in a critical condition. He was flown by the Royal Flying Doctors Service to Perth for urgent medical treatment, and then rushed to Royal Perth Hospital from Jandakot Airport where he arrived at about 9.15pm. The man remains in critical condition in RPH’s intensive care unit on Tuesday afternoon. He is believed to be the same 50-year-old man whom police reported was assisting with enquiries, in the hours after the shocking incident. It is not yet known how the man came to be in a critical condition, nor how the woman died. Police believe the pair are known to each other. Emergency services were first called to the tragedy at 3.10pm on Sunday, responding to reports of an unresponsive woman in a set of units on Burville Street. A 69-year-old woman was found dead inside a residence. Forensics officers and detectives have been combing the scene of the crime since late Sunday, scouring the inside of the premises and the larger area for clues as to the circumstances of the woman’s death. Homicide squad detectives arrived on the scene on Monday and worked with a large team of forensics officers, bringing with them several unmarked cars and a forensics van full of equipment. The van was set up in the front yard of the block of units, with a canopy covering tables of equipment and evidence. Detectives were seen speaking to people in neighbouring properties and passing cars, with forensics officers mostly out of view inside the premises, conducting their investigations. On Monday evening, forensics were seen taking photographs in a fenced yard alongside the unit in question. The set of units remains under strict police guard late on Tuesday afternoon, with tape cordoning off the building.
