Spud king Tony Galati has confirmed the highly anticipated Albany Spudshed is on track to open its doors at North Road Shopping Centre in two months.

Mr Galati confirmed the exciting news in a Facebook video on Friday.

“This is where the Spudshed is happening, all the works are being carried out here behind this great wall,” he said, walking through the North Road complex to the boarded-up construction zone where the new supermarket is taking shape.

“We are anticipating opening at the end of November.

“We can’t wait to see you guys, we’ll be open end of November with all our farm specials.”

Mr Galati first flagged an Albany branch of the WA-grown supermarket in 2018, alongside stores in Geraldton and Kalgoorlie, but officially confirmed the rumours in December last year.

The spud king bought the complex from long-time owner Russell Poliwka earlier this year and its former anchor tenant North Road Fine Food Market IGA closed on June 30 to make way for the WA-grown franchise.

Spudshed also opened a pop-up shop inside the Front Page News newsagency in August, giving shoppers a small taste of the products and prices they will be able to get their hands on when the full-size store opens in November.

The Albany store will be the 20th branch of Spudshed and the fourth regional store after Kalgoorlie, Bunbury and Australind.

The change in ownership brought big changes for the complex, with dress store Chloe’s on North and the Zhivago Cafe both closing in June, and Front Page News set to downsize to a kiosk within the complex.

Businesses still operating within the centre are the Bottle-O, Natural Image Hair and Beauty Salon, Mister Money, the Little Asian Grocery, North Road Financial Services and Prestige Real Estate.
