A treble at Percy Spencer Racecourse has pushed Roy Rogers further clear in the Great Southern Trainers’ premiership.

Rogers finished with three winners at Albany Racing Club last Thursday to take his tally to 42 in a career-best season.

He now sits 17 wins in front of last season’s winner Steve Wolfe (25 wins), who has dominated the title for the best part of two decades. There are three meetings left on the 2020-21 calendar.

Kristella was an impressive winner at her second start since joining the Rogers stable, leading all the way for apprentice jockey Beaux Banovic-Edwards.

Second in betting behind stablemate Captain Sharmane, Kristella jumped cleanly and went straight to the front from barrier six and then skipped clear in the home straight to win by almost three lengths in race four.

Family Connection ran second and Montibu third while Captain Sharmane, ridden by Chris Parnham, was caught wide for much of the race and finished fourth.

Parnham moved into the outright lead of the Great Southern Jockeys’ premiership after a winning double, riding both for Rogers to complete his treble.

Raging favourite Strathmore Rose recorded her third win in seven career starts with a commanding two-length victory in the Nutrien Handicap (1100m).

Kazkazi responded to Parnham’s vigour in the concluding stages to wear down Juliette and salute by half a length in the last race.

Kyra Yuill trails Parnham by one victory after she guided Kia Ora Star home in the Albany Travel & Cruise Handicap (1500m). Kia Ora Star came from last in the small field of seven and chased down leader Little Punga.

My Name’s Star broke a long winning drought, scoring her maiden win at her 18th start for Wolfe in race three. Hoop Ryan Hill got her into clear running in the home straight as she won by 11/2 lengths at the finish.

Wolfe and Hill finished with a winning double after Classic Rogue also tasted success later in the day.
