Upgrades to Millbrook Road will soon be right back on track

Work to finish upgrades to Millbrook Road a year behind schedule will start next month after the City of Albany engaged a new contractor.

The upgrades between Chester Pass Road and Warren Road started in February last year and were due for completion last April.

Last July, the Advertiser reported the drawn-out roadworks were frustrating residents. City of Albany executive director of infrastructure, development and environment Paul Camins said the works hit another roadblock when the original contractor entered liquidation.

“Due to a number of factors, the initial contractor engaged to do the work experienced delays which pushed the project into winter, with wet weather making it difficult to finish the project,” he said.

“A temporary seal was laid by the contractor at the beginning of July to protect the road through the rest of winter, with an intention to recommence work at the beginning of November to complete the project.

“Unfortunately, the contractor entered into liquidation in late September, resulting in the City of Albany having to re-tender and engage another contractor.

“The City of Albany has since awarded the tender to local business AD Contractors.”

The works will restart next month, with completion scheduled for April.

Millbrook Road connects Chester Pass Road and Albany Highway.
