Perth family’s reunion with beloved pet dog Gucci after 18 months

VideoIt was an emotional moment for the Piara Waters family.

The emotional reunion between a Perth family and their beloved pet dog has been captured, after the pooch was finally returned home 18 months after going missing.

There were tears of joy from Gucci’s owners, as the children held their pet for the first time since she disappeared from their Piara Waters home in June 2018.

The furry friend was found after a local resident reported a stray dog wandering around Cannington to the council.

Gucci was taken to Canning Animal Management Facility, but as she was not microchipped and had no identifying tag, she was put up for adoption.

After 11 days a family was about to take the animal home when a member of the Facebook group, Lost Pets of Perth, saw the pooch’s picture on the Lost Animals page of the City of Canning website.

Gucci’s original owner Veronique Garcia was notified and promptly contacted the council to be reunited with her, before filming her children Jasmine and Andre’s heartwarming reaction to having their long-lost pet home again.

The City of Canning’s Mayor was touched by the reunion but told 7News.com.au the family’s story was a timely reminder to pet owners of the importance of microchipping animals.

“Veronique, Jasmin and Andre and extremely lucky to have found Gucci again and we are happy that we helped bring the family back together,” he said.

“It also highlights how incredibly important it is to microchip your pets.

“As well as being a legal requirement, a microchip means that your animal can easily be returned to you if they ever go missing.

“It is essentially their ticket home.”
