Residents will be invited to a pool party later this month for the reopening of the Margaret River Aquatic Centre.

The recreation centre was reopened in late March after the $9 million project to re-roof the ageing centre was hit by supply and contract delays.

During the late stages, a leak was discovered in a critical part of the centre’s 25m pool that forced the aquatic centre’s opening to be held back.

The pool is now scheduled to open on Monday, April 22, with a celebration set for Sunday, April 28.

The April 28 celebration will be free and open to the public from 9am to 2pm.

Fun in the pool itself will include SUP races, synchronised swimming and aqua aerobics demonstrations, as well as the return of the beloved inflatable aqua run.

Visitors will also have a chance to take on a bucking bronco-style mechanical surfboard plus various games, a free community fitness class, food and coffee vans, as well as a DJ delivering fun vibes as well as prizes and giveaways.

A Shire of Augusta-Margaret River spokesperson said the leak in the balance tank was an important fix for the project to wrap up.

“With repairs to the balance tank complete, the pool has been refilled and water will now be chlorinated and heated,” they said.

“Water samples will then be sent to the Health Department for testing and final sign off.”

The re-opening also means an eight-week swimming lesson program can start from April 29.

It is the first time swimming lessons will be run in-house after the council last year voted to establish its own school.
