National selection beckons for Capes junior surfers as State titles kick off at Yallingup today
The region’s up and coming surfing stars will have a chance to strut their stuff on home turf this weekend.
The first round of the 2024 WA Junior Surfing Titles kick off at Yallingup today (Friday, February 9) as part of a three-day shred-fest geared towards helping the State’s juniors sharpen their teeth.
More than 100 grommets aged eight to 17 will showcase their skills in what organisers promised to be “nothing short of a three-day surfing extravaganza”.
Coming on the heels of the recent successful Taj’s Small Fries event in January, competitors will converge from all of WA’s surfing regions for the first of three comps set to decide who will represent Team WA at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in NSW later this year.
The junior titles have long been a staging ground for future massive talents including ruling World Surf League competitors Jack Robinson, Bronte Macaulay and Jacob Willcox.
Current talent to watch included Olive Hardy, Maverick Wilson and Ruby Berry among others.
Unfortunately the surf gods were not sending much in the way of swell this weekend.
