From surfing waves to surfing the web: Yallingup surf legends Eliza and Mikaela Greene have launched a brand new app. For 18 months, the sisters have worked on the MyTab application, which allows punters to order food and drinks directly from their phones. Last month, they launched the app at Busselton cafe The Good Egg. “It’s so frustrating having to leave your seat to order. And in the age of COVID-19, there are hygiene concerns,” Eliza Greene said. “This app answers that problem. Four venues have signed on in the South West, and 158 customers signed up in four days.” The app charges customers a flat fee of 29¢ per order, but does not charge businesses. Ms Greene insists it’s a fair exchange. “People pay for convenience. You pay $5 for Uber eats delivery, for example. Twenty-nine cents is a very small fee, and it’s the same regardless of how big your order is,” she said. The sisters are used to working closely together. For years they have competed side-by-side at premier surf competitions. By 2018, both were ranked in the top 100 female surfers in the world. “We had no experience in tech. But as professional athletes, we are used to sacrifice, determination and grit. We know it takes perseverance if you want to achieve something,” Ms Greene said. “It was a risk. We spent all of our money on a prototype — and then our surfing income dried up because of COVID-19. “But we knew it was the right call.” Interested venues can download the application from Apple’s app store for iOS devices or the Google Play store for Android.
