Discounted travel vouchers launched to boost tourism throughout Kimberley’s 2026 dry season

A new State Government program encouraging visitors to head north this season is expected to generate more than $1 million in tourism bookings. The scheme is offering discounted travel vouchers, which can be used from July 13 to October 31 and will offer 50 per cent off experiences across the Kimberley. Visitors and locals are being encouraged to support the region and booking a discount. Offerings range from scenic helicopter flights and river cruises to Aboriginal cultural activities. The scheme follows the Ningaloo Adventure Voucher Program and includes support for marketing. It has been launched in response to the increase in fuel prices that coincided with the start to the region’s dry season. The voucher program will be delivered in partnership with Australia’s North West through the Broome and Kununurra visitor centres, supporting more than 100 operators who deliver more than 150 tours and experiences. Kununurra Visitor Centre chief executive Vivienne McEvoy said the vouchers were already making an impact on what had been a slow start to the Kimberley tourism season. “Across the Kimberley it is going to have an impact and is already having an impact not just on our tour operators and experiences but also on Kununurra itself because it frees up a little bit more money to be spent around town,” she said. Ms McEvoy said concerns around the availability of fuel in the region were the main driver of the slow start to the Kimberley tourism season. “That scare of fuel not being available, which was never the case up here, made people change their minds really quickly,” she said. “Having this promotion in place has encouraged visitors to spend some money now that they are here.” Ms McEvoy encouraged visitors to make the most of the vouchers while they last. “There’s lots of options. There are cruises, flights, walks, day tours, dinners and all sort of things that the vouchers can be spent on,” she said. “We encourage them to reach out to both Broome and Kununurra visitor centres. We are here to help our visitors to get the best experience while they’re in the region.” Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said it was important for people to support regional businesses and plan a trip. “The voucher program makes travel to the Kimberley easier and more affordable for Western Australians and travellers, while generating forward bookings for tourism operators — ultimately supporting local jobs and businesses, and boosting the local economy,” he said.
