A rescue operation is currently underway for a group of people on the St George Ranges in the West Kimberley region.

It’s understood flood waters may be the reason the group is stranded, with warnings currently in place for people in the Fitzroy River catchment.

It is unclear how many people are in the group, believed to have been travelling between communities when they became stranded.

DFES acting Kimberley superintendent Glenn Hall said a call for help was received late this morning, with the group believed to be stranded near the intersection of Cherrabun Road and Great Northern Highway near Fitzroy Crossing.

“A team is currently en-route to the location to assess the situation and provide support,” he said.
