Bunbury women boost percentage with 96-point thumping of Carey Park

The Bunbury Bulldogs women beat Carey Park 14.13 (97) to 0.1 (1) in a SWFL women’s blowout at Kelly Park on Saturday. Bunbury scored 21 points in the first quarter before the Panthers slotted their only behind, and after three goals in the first quarter, the Bulldogs booted another four before half-time. This gave them a commanding 46-point lead at the main break. It was more of the same in the third quarter as Bunbury notched up another 28 points, while Carey Park could do little to stop the onslaught. Bunbury wrapped the game up with three majors in the final term, pushing the final margin to 96. Daisy Rigby pulled off a special performance with a season-high six goals. This is the fourth time she has kicked at least five goals, with the last in round six against Eaton. Sarina Tassone also starred in front of the posts, bagging four goals. Kloe Bassett was able to put through two majors while Madison Bilcich and Caitlin Ward scored one each. The win keeps Bunbury’s goal percentage the highest in the competition, at 490 per cent. They still sit in third with 40 points equal with South Bunbury, but are a win adrift of Busselton in second and are 12 points away from the top-placed Harvey Bulls. Carey Park sit in ninth on eight points and can no longer reach finals. The loss is the team’s fourth in a row, and the Panthers now have two byes before facing Eaton and South Bunbury in their remaining fixtures.
