Enthusiasts take to Wellington Dam to keep their favourite spot looking pristine

A group of passionate four-wheel-drive enthusiasts came together over the Anzac Day long weekend in a bid to keep one of the region’s most popular tourist spots pristine.

Brayden Creswell, from YouTube channel 4x4 Camping Adventure, was the man behind the clean-up, which attracted 25 like-minded folk to Collie’s Wellington Dam. The volunteers camped on the Saturday night and commemorated Anzac Day like millions of Australians on the Sunday morning, before getting their hands dirty and filling a 9m skip bin with rubbish from around the dam.

Mr Creswell, pictured, said it was pleasing to see so many people volunteer their time for a common cause.

“Even with COVID restrictions in place it was a pretty good turnout and we got rid of a 9m skip full of rubbish,” he said.

“We camped up at the dam and everyone was good to rock and roll the next morning.”

“About 9am that day we got into it and finished up at about 3pm.

The South West 4WD Club had members attend, while some travelled significant distance to get there, like Rohan Hopkinson, who travelled from the town of Nyabing in the Great Southern Region.

“I met Rohan on Instagram and he came for the event, he just saw the message on Instagram and wanted to be a part of it,” Mr Creswell said.

Followers of Mr Creswell’s popular YouTube page can expect to see a full video, including before and after shots of the site in the coming weeks.

The group are now planning another clean-up, this time at the Harvey Dam in July.
