Shire of Capel to increase road safety messaging thanks to RoadWise council status

The Shire of Capel and Harvey have joined 64 other local governments as RoadWise councils, with the shires set to put an extra emphasis on safe driving. The status gives the shire more access to resources, expert advice and support for strengthening local road safety initiatives. Acting shire president Sebastian Schiano said the shire took road safety seriously. “The Shire of Capel’s recognition as a RoadWise council underscores our commitment to making our roads safer for everyone,” he said. “One life lost on our roads is one too many, and we are dedicated to working closely with our community to reduce road trauma and foster a culture of road safety.” The shire will target speed management and promoting safe road behaviour by drivers. Capel is not the only council to be recently given RoadWise status, with the Shire of Harvey announcing it is also now part of the scheme. Shire president Michelle Campbell said she was happy to see the shire’s efforts recognised. “The Shire of Harvey is proud to be one of the 66 local governments acknowledged for making a commitment to improving road safety outcomes for their community by becoming a RoadWise council,” she said. “As part of the shire’s commitment, the Shire of Harvey has been working to progress road safety priorities and to align current road safety practices to safe system and best practice which will work to improve the road safety performance of our local network.” The pair join other South West shires such as Bunbury, Dardanup and Collie among others.
