South West Hockey League: Importance of playing the game in the right spirit highlighted in Respect Round

All South West Hockey League fixtures at the weekend were played as part of Respect Round, highlighting the importance of competitors showing respect for officials, the opposition and their teammates. Saturday’s top of the table women’s clash saw Boyanup continue their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win over the Robins, with goalkeepers Kym Hender and Sasha McMaughan recognised with Respect vouchers for approaching the game in the right spirit. The other women’s games saw Marist register a 1-0 win over the Associates on Saturday and the Exies and Towns South play out a nil-all draw on Friday night. Boyanup also continued their brilliant beginning to the men’s season with an 8-1 victory over the Wests on Saturday, while the other fixture saw Towns South continue their year of improvement by beating the Exies 3-1. No fixtures will be played next weekend due to the South West Junior Hockey Carnival, which will also include an exhibition match between the WA Country men’s side and the Perth Hotspurs.
