Bushfire threatens lives, homes in Furnissdale as Emergency WA issues watch and act alert

AAP
Videobushfire warning has been upgraded to emergency south of Perth, with lives and homes now under immediate threat in Furnissdale.

A bushfire burning south of Perth has been contained but a watch and act message remains in place for local residents.

Emergency WA says there is still a possible threat to lives and property in the southern part of Furnissdale and in the Mandurah area.

The fire was sparked on Monday afternoon and has now burnt through about 26 hectares.

It’s moving slowly in a south-westerly direction with conditions in the area changing.

About 40 firefighters have the blaze under control and remain on the scene.
