Third Wooroloo blaze in year under control by firefighters
Firefighters have contained the third Wooroloo blaze to have broken out in the fire-ravaged area in less than a year.
A bushfire emergency warning was earlier issued for people in an area west of McNamara Road bounded by Burma Road to the north, Werribee Road and Rahnie Road to the south and across to the Bailup Road and Burma Road intersection in the Shire of Mundaring.
The alert, which warned there had been a treat to lives and homes, has now been downgraded as the fire is contained.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services told residents in the affected area not to wait as leaving at the last minute is “deadly”.
A number of roads have been closed including Werribee Road between Chedaring Road and Harper Road.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.
It comes after some Wooroloo residents were told to take shelter on Boxing Day with an out of control fire bearing down.
The blaze burnt through 167ha, including a home and several sheds, but firefighters managed to save all the homes in the nearby estate it was burning towards.
