Busselton Senior Citizens Centre has upped services to deal with sick and elderly people unable to leave their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BSC team has taken extra precautions to ensure safety requirements are met and community members are fed.

Chairwoman Margaret Browne said meals were available from their Peel Terrace centre, calling on family and friends of elderly residents to pick up meals for vulnerable members of the community.

“We’re still doing the meals for home community care, but we are also trying to do the public takeaway. We have set up so they can come in one at a time to pick up their meals,” she said.

“We’re not prepared to deliver it for them because most of our members are older and it’s not safe, but family or friends are welcome.”

Mrs Browne said other activities at the BSC were halted because of the Government’s social gathering restrictions.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said the community had a responsibility to support seniors with basic services such as shopping.

“Our office has provided some assistance with the online delivery system for the immune suppressed, which is through our major supermarkets, and we know many other retailers are also providing home-delivery services,” she said.

Call 9752 2232 to order a takeaway meal. Pick-up is available from 12-1pm.
