Bussell Highway in Capel to be closed for crash investigation
UPDATED: A planned road closure in WA’s South West this Australia Day long weekend has been postponed.
Bussell Highway in Capel, on the outskirts of Busselton, was set to be closed in both directions from Friday between Stirling Road and Ludlow-Hithergreen Road as part of a police investigation.
However Main Roads advised today that will no longer be the case.
“Investigations have been postponed until further notice,” Main Roads WA said this afternoon.
The City of Busselton also took to social media to inform motorists the road would remain clear.
“The City of Busselton has been advised that the proposed closure of Bussell Highway between Stirling Road and Ludlow-Hithergreen Road, Capel on Friday will not be conducted this weekend as planned,” the local government said.
EARLIER: Motorists heading to the South West this long weekend have been warned of road closures near the holiday hotspot.
Bussell Highway in Capel, on the outskirts of Busselton, will be closed in both directions from Friday between Stirling Road and Ludlow-Hithergreen Road.
The Highway is closed for a police investigation into the death of Pemberton potato farmer Tom Fox on January 17.
A police spokesperson confirmed Major Crash officers would be at the scene tomorrow morning.
The closure will take place from 9.30am until 12.30pm, potentially affecting the hoards of holidaymakers heading to the South West for the Australia Day long weekend.
Busselton police officer in Charge Jerry Samoa said Major Crash officers sought an order from Main Roads to conduct the investigation, speak to witnesses and conduct a scene reconstruction.
“Main roads diversions will be in place for light vehicles but heavy trucks may be escorted through by Main Roads,” he said.
Main Roads has urged motorists to allow extra travel time and follow the signed detours.
