Busselton Blazers under-13 basketball State champions

A Busselton under-13 basketball team brought home State champions medals last weekend after six intense games at the Jack Bendat Basketball Stadium in Perth.

The Busselton Blazers went undefeated in the competition to win the State Basketball Champions title.

During the competition they played four round-robin games, a semifinal and a grand final.

Four Busselton-based basketball teams travelled to the competition including two under-15 girls teams, and two under-13 boys teams.

The Busselton Blazers comprises talented players from other Busselton basketball teams, that represent the Busselton Amateur Basketball Association.

The coach of the championship-winning under-13 boys team is Josh Sutherland, a Year 12 student of St Mary MacKillop College.

Josh’s coaching was widely praised over the weekend competition.

The Busselton Blazers won six consecutive games and in doing so secured the the State championship medals.

The grand final was played between the Busselton Blazers and the Willetton Basketball Association, with the Blazers winning 43-19.

Blazers team manager Felicity Pitcher said the team had been well led by coach Sutherland.

“I was so proud of the boys, they showed elite skills and sportsmanship over the whole weekend,” she said.

“Coach Josh is such a great role model for our boys.”
