Busselton champions raise more than $7000 for Cancer Council WA at Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event

Two Busselton residents have raised thousands of dollars for cancer support and research after holding a morning tea.

More than 200 people attended Jill Reilly and Jenny Kay’s recent Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at the Esplanade Hotel, which also included a fashion parade with favourites from Jean Scene.

Cancer Council WA was the beneficiary of the event, with more than $7200 being raised.

South West regional education officer Julie Rose said she was in awe of the pair’s commitment and the role played by tireless volunteers in making the event such a success.

“Cancer Council WA is so grateful to Jill and Jenny, their friends and the extended Busselton community for their continued support for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea,” she said.

Busselton Golf Club ladies president Dale Morgan said the event was attended by many groups and individuals.

“We had lots of fun, food and entertainment, as well as raising money for such a good cause,” she said.

Ms Rose said Ms Reilly and Ms Kay expressed gratitude for the generous support of the city’s residents and businesses, who donated raffle prizes, volunteer time and logistics.

Volunteers from the Busselton Leisure Centre were on hand to assist with the teas and coffees, while Busselton Golf Club members assisted with the vast array of raffles and the fashion parade.

Although the official date of the Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was on Thursday, the public can register to host an event any time between now and June.
