Rocky Ridge Busselton City Ladies Premier team will be regretting some indifferent decision-making in their fixture against Margaret River last weekend.

They found themselves 3-0 in arrears at the break due to an over-reliance on the long ball and a lack of confidence in converting goalscoring opportunities.

There were some encouraging signs in the second spell for Busselton, with Banita Stewart and Kristi Ellis giving their side good attacking options from the back.

City’s Therese Charlton eventually grabbed a goal for her side, who were much more decisive in the final third.

The ladies reserve side comfortably accounted for an under-strength Manjimup Rovers outfit with a 10-0 victory.

It was played in good spirit despite the dismal conditions. Busselton dominated midfield proceedings from the kick-off and scored five goals in the first 45 minutes.

To their credit Manjimup stuck to their task despite Busselton’s Kyah Dunkerton, Jess Sheridan, Ash Charlton, Jess Coshott and Sharon Cowley all finding the back of the net.

A spirited CMI Busselton City men’s premier side lost 2-1 to Dunsborough on Sunday.

Despite the blustery conditions Busselton dictated the tempo in the initial stages and it was not surprising that Martin Ryan gave City the lead midway through the first spell.

Both Toby Neill and Tom Jowett did a lot of the defensive pressing which gave the Busselton back four some much-needed breathing space. However, after half-time Busselton’s tendency to squander possession proved costly and their opponents fed on these mistakes courtesy of two Ryan Martin goals.

Esplanade Hotel men’s reserve side were severely undermanned in their 7-1 loss to Dunsborough.

Busselton defence was constantly put under pressure throughout the match and their opponents were allowed time and space on the ball.

Midfielder Josh Snow and Hagen Castle stood out with their work rate and desire, while Brad Scott’s long-range goal was the only highlight for the local side.

This Sunday all Busselton City sides are involved in the first round of the South West Cup competition. Games will be played at Churchill Park from 8.30am.
