Busselton Naturalist Club embark on geology excursion

Three geological sites in the South West will be showcased on Sunday when the Busselton Naturalists Club takes the public back billions of years for a rock excursion. Sites older than 2.5 billion years will be sought out, with Roelands quarry and White Rocks in Brunswick two of particular interest. Roelands quarry has some of the oldest rocks in the region, while White Rocks in Brunswick is sure to provide “some interesting geological features” for participants. Club president Bernie Masters will lead the expedition which will end at Bunbury’s Back beach — which has an outcrop of basalt lava, marking the separation of India and Australia about 120 million years ago. A bus leaving Busselton Visitor Centre on Peel Terrace at 9am will take participants to each of the sites for $15. A picnic, fold-out chair, and wet weather gear is recommended.
