Busselton rally to snatch title
The Busselton Volleyball Association men won the division one grand final in the WA Volleyball League at Warwick Stadium on Sunday with a marathon come-from-behind victory.
After finishing at the top of the table during the regular season, the team took the hard route to the grand final, having to beat Murdoch in the preliminary last week to return to Perth for the grand final.
In front of a strongly favoured Reds Juniors crowd of supporters, Busselton came out of the gate cold and were easily defeated in the first set 19-25.
The second set did not offer much more hope for the Busselton supporters, again losing 22-25, with Reds Juniors playing at a high standard.
The third set was the turning point for Busselton, with the lead changing several times as each team went point for point, and finally Busselton emerged to win 25-23.
Busselton pulled away in the fourth set with clinical blocking from outside hitter Wesley Combridge and strong spiking from captain Dan Egerding to win 25-20.
A new addition to this year's competition was the introduction of timed matches, limited to two hours game play, resulting in the winning team needing to be two points ahead at the end of game time.
Busselton took the momentum from the fourth set into the final 15 points, and pulled away to a 4-1 lead early on.
Busselton stretched the lead to 14-4 as the match timed out handing Busselton their second division one championship.
