Busselton Volleyball Association was named State Champion Club for 2020 on total points over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

The annual ATA Country State Championship tournament, along with the preliminary finals of the WAVL regular season, were held.

Busselton entered two women’s and one men’s team into the weekend-long CSC competition, with all three teams making the finals.

Both women’s A and B teams came home with the wins, defeating Kalgoorlie (3-1) and Mandurah (3-1) respectively, with Busselton’s Tyra Foster winning the MVP award.

The men’s team was defeated in a gruelling five sets against Mandurah, to take second place.

The WAVL women’s team took on Southern Cross on Sunday morning to keep their finals dreams alive.

It was a hard-fought game but Southern Cross, top of the ladder in the regular season, defeated Busselton in three straight sets.

The men’s team faced Murdoch University to keep their finals campaign on track.

With a noticeable change-up to their rotation, in an effort to correct their mistakes in the prior game’s loss, the men came out very strong and maintained the edge over Murdoch throughout the match, only losing the lead briefly in the second set.

The 3-0 win put them in a grand final rematch against Reds Juniors, 1pm on Sunday, in Perth.
