The State Government is in the process of engaging an independent risk assessment authority to look into two previous reports into the safety of the Canal Rocks boat ramp.

In Parliament last week, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions deputy director general Peter Dans said the City of Busselton’s peer assessment review of the original report that suggested the ramp be shut down “did not shed any new information” and so the Government would be conducting another review.

The process is expected to be under way by the end of the month. The potential closure of the ramp was first reported last October, with the ramp still being available for access since.

The Busselton Dunsborough Times inquired to the DBCA as to whether the ramp would stay open over the coming winter months but a response was not received.
