Capes crew hit solid form

The WA junior surfing team, made up mostly of Capes surfers from Cowaramup Bay Boardriders and Yallingup Boardriders, returned from the week-long Surf, Dive Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles earlier this week.

The competition was held in South Australia, with the remainder of the finals taking place on Saturday.

Gracetown’s Sol Pogue-Englert and Jed Gradisen took home WA’s only win, placing first in the under-16 boys Mark Richards Shield.

Cowaramup Bay Boardriders’ Zali Hewson placed second in the under-14 girl’s final by 0.05 of a point.

Lilli Cox made it to the quarterfinals and Willow Hardy to the semifinals.

In the under-14 boys, Yallingup’s Otis North placed fourth in the finals.

Brock Launders and Macklin Finn surfed through to the quarter finals and Jake Hagan made it to the semifinals.

Red Bluff’s Coral Durant, and Capes surfers Maddie Cawood and Taiana Duncan all made it through to the semifinals in the under-16 girls division. In the under-16 boys, Jack Mitchell was knocked out after the second repecharge and Cowaramup Bay Boardriders’ Jed Gradisen made it to the semifinals before being knocked out.

Pogue-Englert and George Simpson made it to the quarterfinals in the under-16 boys.

In the under-18 girls division Yallingup’s Emma Cattlin placed equal seventh in the finals, and Mandurah’s April McPherson and Red Bluff’s Denni Durant surfed through to the quarterfinals.

Arabelle Gibson made it to the semifinals in the under-18 girls division.

In the under-18 boys, Ben Gradisen, Finn Cox and Lachie Mitchell-Draine all surfed through to the quarterfinals and Charlie Castledon made it to the second repechage.

Maddie Cawood and Emma Cattlin paired up for the under-19 girls MR Shield, Zali Hewson and Lilli Cox teamed up for the under-16 girls MR Shield, and Finn Cox and Ben Gradisen paired up for the under-19 boys MR Shield, with all teams placing fourth in their divisions.

The under-16 Allstars Boys, made up of George Simpson and Jack Mitchell, placed fourth, and the under-19 Allstars Boys, made up of Charlie Castledon and Fletcher Llanwarne, placed third.
