Capes four to represent State in Geraldton

A handful of Capes cricketers have been selected to represent WA in the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships in Geraldton in January.

YOBS’ Ben Clarke and Jazmyne Roberts, Busselton’s Meg Thompson, and Dunsborough’s Chloe Wain will compete in the annual championships, fixtured for January 5-13.

The tournament features regional-based State teams which compete in 11 men’s rounds and seven women’s rounds.

A combined East Asia Pacific Islands team will also take part in the championships, which have proved to be a successful breeding ground for high-level Australian talent.

Cricket Australia game and market development general manager Andrew Ingleton said the Toyota Australian Country Cricket Championships were a great celebration of country cricket at its best.

He said it provided Aus-tralia’s best regional players the opportunity to test their skills at a high level of competition and acted as a pathway for regio-nal players wanting to push through the ranks of Australian cricket.
