Capes students set to represent State
Five students from the Capes region have been chosen to represent WA at the School Sport National carnivals beginning on July 27.
Dunsborough’s Jude Mazzucchelli will play for the State Schoolboys and Margaret River’s Ella Roberts will play for the State Schoolgirls in the under-15s AFL carnival at seven different venues in Launceston.
Mazzucchelli, 14, said he hoped to emulate elite AFL players Scott Pendlebury, Luke Shuey and Luke Parker.
The centre man will play on the wing for the Black Swans as they look to utilise his penetrating left foot kick.
“I’ve been doing a bit of agility training with my Dad every week so that has helped my speed,” he said. “Dad has really helped my game and he drives me up to training in Perth every Monday night.”
State Schoolboys coach Stephen Thomson has pushed Mazzucchelli to work on his fitness and skills to best help WA replicate the under-18s success, who won the national championship two weeks ago.
Margaret River’s Ethan Buckland, Dunsborough’s Ella Butler and Busselton’s Maddison Johnston-Walker will also compete at the national swimming championships hosted by Victoria at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from July 27 to 31. Johnston-Walker, 16, has been selected as the vice-captain of the swim team while Buckland, 16. will compete in the carnival for the first time.
