Chefs set for cook-off
Vasse Felix chefs Jason Nicholas and Lara Kirby are getting ready to cook off against the country’s best culinary talent in the national final of the Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award in Melbourne later this year.
The pair competed in the State final at the North Metropolitan TAFE on Sunday, June 24 taking home silver medals and securing themselves a spot in the national final at Fine Food Australia in Melbourne in September.
About 26 chefs stepped up to the plate at the WA cook-off last month, but it was Nicholas and Kirby’s two-course menu which impressed the judging panel.
Competing in his first cooking competition, Nicholas said he entered to see how his skills measured up to other chefs.
The pair said they were pleased with their performance and did not expect the result.
Nestlé Professional executive chef Mark Clayton said the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award supported the professional development of young chefs and offered a platform to advance their culinary skills.
