Churches unite to mark Easter at sunrise

Pierra WillixBusselton Dunsborough Times

The Old Dunsborough foreshore will be lined with people from various Christian churches in the region this weekend for a service that welcomes a range of denominations.

The Combined Churches of Dunsborough has for two decades been gathering on Easter Sunday to conduct a service as the sun rises over Geographe Bay.

Involved in the event are the Dunsborough Community Church, Church of Christ, C3 Church, Our Lady of the Southern Cross, St George’s Anglican Parish and St John’s Church.

One of the organisers, Philip Gifford of the Dunsborough Community Church, said the service was born from a desire among the churches to gather on one of the most important days on the Christian calendar. “This is the coming together of all of the churches rather than just one church — they are all part of the same family,” he said.

Mr Gifford said the service was open to all, with a free barbecue breakfast and Easter eggs to follow. The Combined Churches of Dunsborough Easter Sunday service will be held on Sunday at the Old Dunsborough boat ramp from 6am.
