City aims to boost youth policy as season nears

Despite hot summer conditions, Busselton City Football Club will go ahead with preparation for the upcoming soccer season.

After a highly successful 2020 competition, the club hopes to again play host to five senior sides, with three men’s teams and two women’s.

Club secretary Steve Gibson said with the skill and expertise of technical director of coaching Stu Farmer and senior men’s coach Anthony Mills, the club aimed to boost its youth policy.

“In the past two years, Busselton City has been particularly committed to transitioning several promising junior players into their senior ranks,” Gibson said.

“Mills and Farmer have already been collaborating to ensure that the club’s youth policy once again provides both quality coaching and plentiful playing opportunities.”

Last season was dominated by BCFC’s women’s soccer with the Premier League side undefeated and the reserves team finishing runners-up.

Coach Rob Gibbons will again be at the helm of the two teams with the assistance of prolific goal scorer Chenaye Wright.

“Last season, the club had a number of very promising female players in their ranks and provided over half of the region’s representative girls’ youth team, which competed in the annual country week competition,” Gibson said.

The first pre-season game will be held at the end of next month as part of the Football Margaret River Carnival and will be followed by the South West Soccer Association’s Pioneer Cup competition.

Pre-season training will begin at Churchill Park at 6pm on February 2 and 3 and all ages are welcome.
