The events season is off and running in the Capes, and this weekend sees one of the biggest on the calendar.

Next weekend, the Margaret River region will be swarming with visitors for the Gourmet Escape but this weekend it’s all about local events, for locals.

This afternoon, it all starts in Dunsborough with the annual Hannay Lane Street Party.

Live music and market stalls will pack the laneway for the popular free community event. On Saturday and Sunday, the action continues in Dunsborough and Yallingup with the Dunsborough Songfest and The Sou’West Vintage Fest.

The Vintage Fest will be held on Saturday at Caves House Hotel from 11am to 10pm.

The annual event celebrates all things vintage and surf culture and is a big nod to nostalgia.

Besides the vintage markets and surf mobile car show, there are events for the community to get involved in.

Beauties can vie for the title of Miss Sou’West Vintage Fest in the pin-up competition and blokes can have a go in the Best Beard contest.

Event organiser Sarah Taylor, said she loved seeing locals and visitors getting into the spirit of these occasions.

Dunsborough Songfest will be held over the two days, with a mix of ticket and non-ticket events.

More than 700 vocalists, from 40 singing groups, will descend on Capes for the 100th anniversary of the event.

Event director Matthew Clements said the program appealed to all ages, singers, music lovers and anyone wanting to feel that special Dunsborough vibe during springtime.

“I think our program celebrates and connects community through song,” he said.
