Didi ride-share launching in Busselton
The South West transport sector is growing more competitive as DiDi Australia sets to launch its ride share service in Bunbury and Busselton on August 10.
Development is part of DiDi’s 20-city expansion plan and comes only five months after Ola landed in Busselton and Bunbury.
DiDi Australia spokesperson Dan Jordan said after launching in Perth in November last year DiDi was focusing on providing affordable transport to communities in Bunbury and Busselton.
Mr Jordan said DiDi’s success when entering Australia was its “industry leading 10 per cent service fee for ride share users.”
“Every region we’ve entered in Australia so far we have had a positive reaction from ride share drivers and riders, not only because of our competitive sign up offers but also because of our affordability of the product,” he said.
“What we are focused on is bringing these additional benefits to Bunbury and Busselton and the surrounding areas.”
Busselton Taxis owner Jeff Devenny said DiDi drivers don’t provide the necessities local taxi companies provide.
Mr Devenny said ride share drivers worked whenever they want, while Taxi services have a rostered system and are there for the people in the early morning and late at night.
“The government has created this monster where its just open slather now” he said.
“If we had to close due to this, it would leave a lot of people vulnerable.”
He argued there would not be more drivers in Busselton with Ola, rather the same rideshare drivers as before but with an additional sticker on their car.
“They’re not reliable, they’re not there seven days a week like a regional taxi service” said Devenny.
“We hope local people support local business because we’re here and we’ve worked hard through the pandemic and we do our job at a very heavy financial cost to ourselves.”
New Busselton and Bunbury DiDi riders and drivers a-like will enjoy attractive offers from the ride share company as it joins the competitive market.
