The South West’s first internationally accredited FootGolf Course is now open at the Dunsborough & Districts Country Club.

The official open day last Sunday saw 34 players of all ages try their hand at the new golf alternative with nothing but positive reviews.

Golf club committee member Doug Gilchrist said the inaugural event was a huge success.

“It was an outstanding success,” he said.

“The children really did have a good time, and the adults too, everyone loved it.

“This is a championship course, the day was a tremendous success and we are very happy.”

FootGolf combines the skills of soccer with the rules and finesse of golf.

Suitable for everyone, Mr Gilchrist said FootGolf was “a great way to introduce a new form of fitness to the community’’ and give a new look to the traditional sport.

He hopes the new addition will bring locals to the club, hidden away of the outskirts of town.

“The clubhouse is not in the centre of town and a lot of people don’t know it’s there,” he said.

“We are really trying to make people aware of the club and what is has to offer.”
