The Dunsborough Lions had their hearts touched earlier this month when more than 300 locals attended the opening of their new shed, a feat funded solely by the club through various sales and fundraisers.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam and Federal Member for Forrest Nola Marino began the proceedings with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open one of the community-focused groups most memorable achievements.

Club treasurer Malcolm Van Rensburg said the event was a great success.

“We had a huge crowd turn out ... it went very well, everyone was in good spirits. Invited guests were given a tour of the place ... they were all very impressed and happy with what we do here,” he said.

The Club continued trading from the shed throughout the opening event, managing to still rake in their usual $3000 in second-hand sales.

Mr Van Rensburg said the Dunsborough Lions were one of 28,000 clubs worldwide which in total boasts more than 1.5 million members.

“It just goes to show that, anywhere in the world, the lions are in there donating and helping the community,” he said.

Ms Mettam said it was a privilege to be part of the Dunsborough Lions Club opening.

“Congratulations to this fantastic group of locals who work so hard each week to support our community,” she said.

The shed marks the significant growth of the Club over the last 10 years and highlights its essential place within the Dunsborough community.
