Busselton Family History Society is holding a free open day on August 26 to mark National Family History Month.

The society will offer guidance on the “obsession” of investigating genealogy.

Members of the not-for-profit group will be on hand to show what extensive resources are available and guide beginners on their quest to understand more about their family origins.

Busselton Family History Society president Jackie Emery said it was a fascinating hobby, which was becoming more difficult with changes to the modern family dynamic.

“We are available between 10am and 1pm any day to support anyone who might need a bit of help in their research,” she said.

“This is not just local research, we can access worldwide databases.

Busselton Family History Society has five different computer programs, thousands of microfiche and an extensive library specialising in Australian Aboriginal, UK and German families.

The group operates out of the Busselton Community Resource.
