Fans and aspiring soccer players gathered at the Busselton foreshore on Saturday for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour. Busselton is one on four stops in WA to be included in the tour which includes Perth, Broome and Kununurra. The celebrations began with a group of female soccer players heading to the end of the jetty to participate in a few scratch matches on a field made and set up by Naturaliste Turf. The group then got to learn from Freestyle Football World Champion Lia Lewis, who taught some difficult skills such as juggling and rainbow flicks, before showing off her impressive moves. The main event started later in the morning with the public hearing from a range of female sport stars such as Perth Glory captain Tash Rigby, original Matilda Sandra Brentnall and Margaret River surfer Felicity Palmateer. The crowd then swarmed over to the signing area to get autographs and photos, before participating in a range of activities planned by FIFA and the Busselton Jetty crew.
