Festival of football comes to Busselton

Busselton will host Football West’s third Regional Festival of Football starting on Tuesday April 23 – Saturday April 27 with a National Premier League WA match between Perth Glory and Sorrento held at Barnard Park.

The Saturday April 27 game will feature some of the games future stars when Glory reserves take on Sorrento in the Regional Cup which will be livestreamed by Football West.

Other games to be played on the day include a local derby between Leeuwin Naturaliste Junior Soccer Association and Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association at 11am.

This will be followed by a match involving two South West Soccer Association teams at 1pm.

Other activities include A Perth Glory open training session at Barnard Park at 4pm on Friday, April 26 and free workshop for coaches, who will have access to Glory NPL coach and former Socceroo Richard Garcia and Football West Leeuwin Naturaliste Development Officer Juan Propato.

A free Referee Level 4 entry course at Busselton City FC’s Churchill Park will also be held with the first session running from 6-9pm on Friday, and the second 8.30-11.30am on Saturday.

For kids there are free holiday school clinics for both boys and girls aged 8-16 and will be run by Leeuwin-Naturaliste Development Officer Juan Propato with 35 spaces available each day.

Football West Corporate Partnerships Manager Mark Bryant said the Regional Festival of Football had gone to Geraldton and Kalgoorlie and Football west was excited to hold matches in Busselton.

“We would like to thank the City of Busselton and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for their support in making the Regional Festival of Football possible,” he said.
