Giroud good form a boon

The junior country week cricket tournament came to an end last Friday, with Busselton Margaret River under-16s playing against Geraldton under-16s at the WACA ground in Perth.

The Geraldton team was undefeated coming into the match, while Margaret River had won only one of their previous five games. Geraldton got off to a flying start thanks to 90 from opener Taj Satie before he was bowled by Conor Giroud.

Darcy Ingle also scored a halfcentury for Geraldton with 59 as they finished on 8-254 off 50 overs. Giroud was the shining light for Busselton Margaret River, taking 4-50 and top-scoring with 22 after coming in at No.10.

No other batsman could reach 20 for Busselton Margaret River as they were eventually bowled out for 127 off 41.1 overs.

Geraldton would later be crowned under-16 country week champions.

The under-14s had better luck against Geraldton at Ferndale Reserve thanks to a magnificent partnership between Darcy Bailey (60) and Alex Cooke (41).

Busselton Margaret River posted a strong 9-202 before bowling Geraldton out for 158 off 44.4 overs. Brody Gould had the best bowling figures with 2-18 and two maidens off seven overs.
