A mix of more than 400 punters, writers, politicians, book lovers, supporters came together for the opening launch of the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival on Friday.

WA Minister for Culture and the Arts David Alan Templeman MLA addressed the crowd and burst into song in the middle of his speech.

The audience was lucky enough to be treated to a teaser of the fabulous play Because We’re Black! written by performance writer Melody Dia.

The launch was a start to a successful weekend at the Readers and Writers festival both in Margaret River and Busselton.
