A family fun ride on the bike path between Busselton and Dunsborough will be held this weekend.

Organised by the Apex Club of Busselton and coinciding with Bike Week, the Geographe Bay Cycle has three distances to cater to all ages and abilities.

Apex Busselton president Alec Ovans said the event was not a race, rather the emphasis was on inspiring everyone to get on their bikes and enjoy the beautiful surrounds of Geographe Bay. At the finish in Dunsborough, a sausage sizzle, fruit, and a free bike health check will be provided.

Mr Ovans encouraged families to get involved and said there would be marshals and water stations along the way, as well as prizes for the best decorated bike.

The event will also raise awareness of motor neurone disease, with local community fundraising group Darren’s Ride represented on the day and information and merchandise available. There will also be a raffle.

The main Geographe Bay Cycle will be held on Sunday from 9am from the Gale Street foreshore to the Old Dunsborough Boat Ramp.

For those wanting to travel a shorter distance, joining points will be at the Abbey boat ramp from 9.20am or from 10am at Kooringal Retreat Siesta Park.

Participants are reminded to bring a water bottle, sun protection and a helmet.
