Kirsty Wyatt brings Portraits In Time: A Celebration of Life to Bond Store at Old Courthouse Complex

Busselton artist Kirsty Wyatt is celebrating and showcasing older generations in the city in a new exhibition at the Old Courthouse Complex. Her latest project Portraits In Time: A Celebration of Life is currently on show at the Bond Store, which is also set to host an artist talk with Wyatt on Saturday from 11am. Through visually striking portraits and the sharing of life experiences, the Busselton artist’s work seeks to foster intergenerational understanding and respect within the community. City of Busselton exhibition supervisor Sharon Williams said Wyatt received more than 100 responses after she put out an expression of interest for her project on a community page. “This really highlighted how engaged the community has been with this project,” she said. Wyatt specialises in watercolour and mixed media techniques, which can be found in her exhibition. She said people and their stories are her primary inspiration, helping fuel her creativity. “I seek to capture the fleeting moments of life through careful observation and a deep connection with objects and their histories,” Wyatt said. “My focus is on illuminating the triumphs, challenges, personalities and experiences that shape our lives as everyday individuals and their narratives hold great significance to me.” Wyatt said she wanted to provide a platform for ordinary people’s voices to be heard and their significance to be recognised. “Everyone’s journey is unique and my dedication lies in striving to convey the profound impact of their live,” she said. “It was wonderful to have the likes of Capecare and William Carey Court reach out for me to include some of their residents. I also had people nominating their loved ones and others nominating themselves.” The exhibition runs until April 29.
