Dunsborough Kookaburras are State champions after defeating Perth White 5-0 in the Skate Australia WA roller hockey championships last Saturday.

After cruising to victory in their first match, Dunsborough were confronted by two difficult games against Perth and the Blue Sharks.

Down 2-1 in the dying minutes of their qualifying match against Perth, Dunsborough superstars Kris “the Wizard” Olson and Rob Haselhurst delivered two last-minute goals to win the game.

Olson (six goals) and Haselhurst (five) were the top scorers for the tournament.

The Blue Sharks would again test the Kooks’ patience and skill with a well-drilled performance, resulting in a 3-3 draw.

Luckily, the Kooks would not face the Blue Sharks again as White defeated them in the semifinal before Dunsborough dominated the grand final to win 5-1 to remain undefeated.

Kooks president Paul Flagg said the comprehensive grand final performance came from the team’s elite fitness.
