Emergency service volunteers will be front and centre at Lions Park in Dunsborough tomorrow to educate and prepare communities ahead of the bushfire season.

The RAC Rescue Helicopter simulator and other emergency service demonstrations will be run on the day. Demonstrations will also give residents the opportunity to learn about the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warning system, how to prepare properties for bushfire, prepare, act and survive strategies, bushfire mitigation advice and local fire protection products and services.

Community emergency services manager Blake Moore said the expo was about engaging with the community and helping prepare them before bushfire season.

“We encourage people to come down and support the local volunteers who do an amazing job to support and protect our communities,” he said.

“There will be demonstrations and information booths and lots of appliances in place to look over.

“It’s also a great day for the kids, with a special appearance from Doopa Dog.”

Mayor Grant Henley said the City was proud to partner with the DFES in the event.

“With the proximity to bushfire areas within Cape Naturaliste, it is important for people to be prepared and this is a great way for people to come and find out how they can best prepare their homes and families,” he said.

Displays will include Volunteer Bushfire Service, Marine Rescue, St John Ambulance, Police and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

The expo will take place from 8.30am-1pm.
